The charity musical festival Samfest is being held in Tongham, Surrey on August 8th.  Donating 100% of its profits to local good causes, Samfest has run since 2010 and is celebrating its fifth anniversary at this year’s event.

The great news is that Samfest is also celebrating attracting a £500 micro sponsorship plus free product from our rural micro-sponsorship scheme. The award recognises Samfest as a heart-of-the-community event run by and for locals, in aid of good causes around Surrey. Our seed funding will help with a charity barbecue and marketing to reach an even bigger audience than in previous years, so raising even more money for its selected charities.

This year’s Samfest has two stages, a main stage and an acoustic stage, which will feature a variety of musical styles including the out and out rock of ‘The Flying Wrights’ a much loved act who are returning to the event by popular demand. With everything from ballads to boybands, barbecues (featuring debbie&andrew’s of course) and bars, plus an Arts & Crafts market, funfair and a new UPlay Tent - there is definitely something for everyone to enjoy at this year’s event.

samfest in the daySamfest regulars say it is much more than just a music festival – it is also celebration of local friendships. Particularly for those who remember ‘Sam’, the namesake of the festival for whom this is a much loved event. Event Organiser Michael Wright explains, “Sam was my wife and mother to our 3 year old son and closely connected with setting up the festival. Sadly she passed away due to pancreatic cancer before the first performance was staged. So we renamed the festival to become a tribute to Sam and one of our chosen charities is the Phyllis Tuckwell hospice, which cared for her.”

Samfest is obviously a magical event, wonderfully supported by the local community and doing an amazing job in raising money for local good causes. It really embodies what our micro sponsorship scheme aims to achieve, supporting causes which bring ‘a real taste of the country’ to life”.
