Bob Lawless: Chairman of Playing and Youth Middlesex

unsung rugby hero nominee

Dave Simmons, CEO of Titans Sports Academy has nominated Bob Lawless to be considered for a legendary night out with debbie&andrew’s at the Rugby World Cup Legends Dinner Corinthia Hotel on 23rd October. He says:

I first met Bob around 6 years ago in my first year at St Mary's university. Having completed my level 2, I was put forward to support a couple of programmes including those for Middlesex Rugby and Wasps.

It was through Middlesex I met Bob. It was as obvious then as it is now that he is a true rugby man. He has dedicated his life to the sport, in particular supporting Staines and Middlesex. He is the first one to every session and the last one to leave. On top of that you can guarantee that he will have sorted every kit bag across several age groups (balls, bibs, bottles etc) and jerseys for match days.

When I took over responsibility for leading a county age group two years ago, I started spending more time with Bob. I saw at first hand just how committed he is to the sport. His passion for driving the development of young aspiring players is inspirational. He has led the success of the Middlesex Development Course almost single handed. This is based in Regents Park and it gives players from state schools and all demographic backgrounds the opportunity to receive high quality coaching. In addition to this, Bob has driven and supported the county development courses at Staines & Teddington RFC (London Welsh in October), which have both been a huge success.

In all my time with the county I have not heard of Middlesex going on tour as an age group. When the idea to take Middlesex U16's to Sweden was put to Bob early this year, he did everything possible to make it happen. This meant he took on all the back office detail including ensuring the insurance was sorted and health and safety requirements met. Then he (and his wife) put their own holiday time into accompanying the tour. The feedback from the boys and parents alike has been phenomenal.

Bob is a true hero and a credit to the game. I hope that Bob is considered and successful in this award. ENDS August 2015
